Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

You surely watched the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Now read the book and find out all the missing stuff and thoughts of characters that you can never see on a screen.

If you are a Tarantino fan, then for you this book is already recommended and points are a hundred out of a hundred. But For others… you can continue reading the review.

The book is enjoyable; with various parallel (and eventually intersecting) tales that lead to what I can only imagine is the start of the film. And, if the reader has some historical knowledge, and watched the movie already, then they will know what happens following The Last Chapter.

Tarantino effortlessly mixes history and fiction, leaving you wondering, about Bruce Lee and military and many other things, and then you’ll ask yourself about reality and fiction. Was that real in the movie or just the imagination of Tarantino?

The reader gets insider terminology and gets behind-the-scenes access to locations, people, and historical events that are only known to a very few elite Hollywood insiders. It's probably for the best that the majority of the characters in the book are deceased. They'd probably have something to say about how they're portrayed. Lots of it made me angry, but I calmed myself by saying it is just a book and a movie so just enjoy the comedy and book and in the case of the movie, the acting.

This review can go on and on but better you read the book and watch the movie if until now you didn’t. In summary, it’s about how Hollywood and the industry use a person and spits him/her out and the fakeness and other stories that are related to the writer and nod to his favorite movies, personalities, and other stuff from his life like his father. Still a good read and an enjoyable story and situation.

From The Back Cover:
“Quentin Tarantino’s long-awaited first work of fiction — at once hilarious, delicious, and brutal — is the always surprising, sometimes shocking new novel based on his Academy Award- winning film.

RICK DALTON – Once he had his own TV series, but now Rick’s a washed-up villain-of-the week drowning his sorrows in whiskey sours. Will a phone call from Rome save his fate or seal it?

CLIFF BOOTH – Rick’s stunt double, and the most infamous man on any movie set because he’s the only one there who might have gotten away with murder. . . .

SHARON TATE – She left Texas to chase a movie-star dream, and found it. Sharon’s salad days are now spent on Cielo Drive, high in the Hollywood Hills.

CHARLES MANSON – The ex-con’s got a bunch of zonked-out hippies thinking he’s their spiritual leader, but he’d trade it all to be a rock ‘n’ roll star.

HOLLYWOOD 1969 – YOU SHOULDA BEEN THERE”

I was going to give a hundred points but for what they tried to do with a real-life legend Bruce Lee, I am not going to give full points but still, it’s a hundred percent recommended read. Just don’t get angry if you are a fan of the great legend Bruce Lee and think of it as an attempt at getting more people talking about the movie and watch it; in simple words a cheap trick for publicity.

The Da Vinci Code

Usually, I never talk about the books' story or use characters’ names in my reviews but this book needs all that in the review and I feel easy while writing this way for the first time and may do it in the future also with other books if needed. One more reason is that it is already a best seller and almost every book reader knows about this book so I can add a bit of info about what is happening in the book without spoiling it for any new reader.

Mr. Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, published in 2000, was the first to include the character Robert Langdon but I found it of no concern because that is the only thing connecting all the books in this series and you can actually read them all as solo stories in my opinion but I think it is a clever way of connecting these books because when Robert Langdon comes on the page, you already know his background and his skills and that is helpful if you read other parts of this series.

The Da Vinci Code follows symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu. Following a murder in the Louvre Museum in Paris as they become involved in a dispute between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei over the possibility of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene having a child together.

The main background storyline element of the novel is that the Merovingian kings of France were descended from the bloodline of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, based on themes from Clive Prince's The Templar Revelation (1997) and Margaret Starbird's novels.

The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail (1982) is also mentioned in the novel, though Dan Brown has said that it was not used as research material. And it doesn’t matter if you read this book just as a book of fiction and enjoy the idea and puzzle-solving with Robert Langdon.

The Da Vinci Code sparked widespread curiosity about the Holy Grail legend and Mary Magdalene's significance in Christianity's history. Many Christian denominations have criticized the book as an attack on the Catholic Church, and it has been resoundingly critiqued for historical and scientific flaws. Despite this, the novel became a worldwide bestseller and being translated into 44 languages by the time of writing this review (30/07/2021.)

Later, illustrated version of the book was published also to show the puzzles and other useful items.

This book was adapted with the same name as the book with actor Tom Hanks in the lead role as Robert Langdon.

For me the best thing was to play the game related to this book and movie, I loved solving puzzles in the game and now I am planning to play the game again.

A fast-paced book but I think it is better to read it in a silent place to enjoy it so no one can disturb you while reading.

I like the writing style of Mr. Dan Brown and the way he brings in twists after twists on every page and combines nonstop action is what many people want to read and once you read the books by him you really start to see the world differently.

From The Back Cover:
“MORE THAN 80 MILLION COPIES SOLD

Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s 'The Great American Read'

While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Even more startling, the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—a secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci—and he guarded a breathtaking historical secret. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle—while avoiding the faceless adversary who shadows their every move—the explosive, ancient truth will be lost forever."

The Doomsday Conspiracy

This was my first book by Late Mr. Sidney Sheldon. The way I got hooked to his writing was by accident and I am glad it happened.

One of my cousins was on a visit and she brought this book with her to our home. One night I was sitting in the dining room, having coffee and thinking about starting a new book. By chance I saw this book; it was on the table across from where I was sitting. I looked at the cover, read a bit from the back cover, and started reading.

I read a few pages and was about to leave for my room when I realized it was not my book so I left it where I found it. But I was already addicted to this new world.

The next day I found the book in the TV lounge and started reading again. Basically, I was reading it in episodes and it was like being on a drug that you can’t have because I didn’t want anyone to know that I am reading it. After all, I was not on talking terms with my cousin. Few days passed like this and then she left and took her book with her. I was still in the middle of the story so the next day I went to the book store and bought a copy of my own.

The story is gripping but sometimes sad, but that is a part of the plot and the mystery is going to make you crazy. Even with all the drama, action, suspense, and thrills, the book is written in a very simple and understandable way. Don’t confuse it with the doomsday conspiracy or the cold war because it has nothing to do with that. It is about something else and you should read it in the book instead of me telling you about it. The pace is almost perfect; you don’t get bored and even with the parts with “sadness.”

Some writers were so accurate about the new world conspiracies, that you start to believe that they had time machines or they already knew what the governments are planning because they had informants working for them. Mr. Sidney Sheldon was one of these writers.

Synopsis:
“OPERATION DOOMSDAY… ACTIVATE…

Commander Robert Bellamy of US Naval Intelligence is dispatched on a top secret mission. A weather balloon carrying sensitive military information has crashed in Switzerland. Bellamy must locate the ten witnesses to the incident so that they can be sworn to secrecy.

But as he conducts his search Bellamy begins to suspect that he, too, is being hunted, by an unknown lethal force… that what he was told about the balloon was only one part of an almost unbelievable happening..”

Influence: Dan Brown the author of The Da Vinci Code, named The Doomsday Conspiracy as the book that inspired him to write thriller fiction, citing its "simplicity of the prose and efficiency of the storyline"

This book and the story are going to make you believe.

Nine Lives

After reading about the genres of this book, you may think I read books from this genre also and my answer is yes I read almost everything that I can get my hands on, plus don’t forget, it is written by Miss. Danielle Steel. Who I thought was a man for a long time until I saw her picture and that was something that I will never forget because the same day I found one more blunder in my life and it was about another writer, Late Mr. Sidney Sheldon, I thought he was a woman. I loved his writing and am feeling sad about losing him at the moment while writing about him. I wish he was able to write more because I loved his great ideas. The next review is surely going to be about one of his books.

The books related to genres that are about mothers, women, family, and children are usually eye-openers and teach us a lot of lessons if written properly. No need to write with spice and twists, just a normal family drama and daily situations are enough to make a book famous and number one on any top ranking list. That is why I read these books so I can learn something about how to be good with family and the women around me.

I can’t say that I read all of this author’s books but yes I read a lot of them. If you read her previous books then you kind of know this book also but it is as good as any other book by her. I normally never spoil the story or tell anything about the story but here I must tell something about this one…this story is about a woman who lives a very dull and boring life because of her past and now she is changing because of something from the past. In simple words, if you want an adventure with romance and excitement and be quick and happy about it, then read this book because it feels like the time is flying with this book. It is a fast and easy read and you can actually finish the book in one sitting if nothing else to do.

The bad side of this book is the repetitive stuff and in some cases the wooden and stiff characters but for some these characters can be real and you may start to care for them. Sometimes a book is the same but the way we read or understand it is not the same. Like someone who doesn’t know the author’s style may feel robbed when trying to read this book but for the fans, it is a great story. So the choice is always yours. I am not going to give it full points due to this reason but in my heart, this book deserves a hundred points.

Synopsis:
“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A woman who longs to avoid risk at all cost learns that men who love danger are the most exciting in this moving novel from New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel.

After a carefree childhood, Mary Margaret Kelly came of age in the shadow of grief. Her father, a dashing daredevil Air Force pilot, died when she was nine. Maggie saw her mother struggle to put their lives back together. As the family moved from one city to the next, her mother warned her to beware of daredevil men and avoid risk at all cost.

Following her mother’s advice, and forgoing the magic of first love with a high school boyfriend who was too wild to feel safe, Maggie instead sought out all the things her mother had lost—a predictable partner, a stable home, and a regular paycheck. She chose to marry a dependable, kind man who was a reliable husband and successful accountant. Together they had a son and found happiness in a conventional suburban life. Until tragedy struck again.

Now on her own, feeling a sense of adventure for the first time, Maggie decides to face her fears, setting off on a whirlwind trip from San Francisco to Rome, Paris, and Monaco. But when her travels reconnect her with the very same irresistible, thrill-seeking man she’s spent thirty years trying to forget, Maggie becomes terrified that rushing into love and sharing his life may very well end in disaster. But ultimately, while Maggie tries to outrun her fears and painful memories of her past, fate will surprise her in the most astounding of ways, as she walks the tightrope between danger and courage, and between wisdom and love.”

I can’t give this book a hundred points even if I want to do that because that will be like cheating with the people who read my reviews and trust me when deciding to buy a book. It has its flaws and many readers may not like this book and the writing style of Miss. Danielle Steel, even some fans may feel angry at the repetitive style or same formula of writing.

I am sure it is unintentional and the concept and story may seem kind of the same but it is not. And for those people who say I can see the plot and story even before it happens…my reply is: I can tell even the dialogue of many movies even before the actors speak; the reason Is very simple, I read a lot, and after you have that much data in your mind, you can really start to act like a supercomputer so just relax and enjoy what you just bought and don’t spoil it for others.

Papillon

This book is in my opinion the granddaddy of prison escape books and movies. The story spans more than fourteen years and is about a guy who was wrongfully accused of a murder he never committed. This book was an immediate success and became a bestseller instantly, achieving widespread fame, and is considered a classic. It was the number one bestseller for twenty-one weeks in France alone, with more than 1.5 million copies sold in France alone. Two hundred thirty-nine editions of the book have since been published worldwide, in twenty-one different languages at the time of writing this review. (28/08/2021)

I bought this book just because I had the offer to buy any book for twenty-five percent price and I was looking for a huge book so I can get the most out of this deal and luckily I found this book. I am glad I choose this and when I started reading this book, I forgot about the time but even with the way it is written, I felt the time stop whenever I was reading about “Papi” pacing in his prison cell. It was hard to read at times when you realize a person was a prisoner for life and had to count every second of it, especially when he was innocent. I actually felt like being with him in the cell when he was in for solidarity. And again with him whenever he was spinning plan after plan for escape. This book and “Papi” are going to teach you so much about life that you can never learn in a free life. It’s about the freedom that we never even notice and just live our lives without appreciating the beauty and happiness around us.

Clearly one of the best reads I ever had. A classic.
The story is all about courage and the will to fight and never giving up in any situation. I learned a lot from this book and it helped me become a better version of myself.

Papi did something in one part that I was not happy about. Without spoiling anything, it is about two sisters. You’ll know what I am talking about when you read the book. Other than that I loved the book.

Synopsis:
“Henri Charrière, nicknamed "Papillon," for the butterfly tattoo on his chest, was convicted in Paris in 1931 of a murder he did not commit. Sentenced to life imprisonment in the penal colony of French Guiana, he became obsessed with one goal: escape. After planning and executing a series of treacherous yet failed attempts over many years, he was eventually sent to the notorious prison, Devil's Island, a place from which no one had ever escaped . . . until Papillon. His flight to freedom remains one of the most incredible feats of human cunning, will, and endurance ever undertaken.

Charrière's astonishing autobiography, Papillon, was first published in France to instant acclaim in 1968, more than twenty years after his final escape. Since then, it has become a treasured classic--the gripping, shocking, ultimately uplifting odyssey of an innocent man who would not be defeated.”

“A first-class adventure story.” — New York Review of Books.”

The movies based on the book:
Papillon 1973
Starring: Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman, Victor Jory

Papillon 2018
Starring: Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Yorick van Wageningen

The Fifth Angel

Published: 1985
Author: David Wiltse
Genres: Suspense, Action, Fiction, Thriller

The book cover made me buy this book because it looked like a cover of a video game from old times. I had no idea that this book was going to leave me breathless and play with my heartstrings so badly because of some action that is so intense that it actually makes you feel breathless and gasping for air. Really don’t read the book if you are claustrophobic or stop at those pages that make you feel breathless. Take some rest and read again but better read it with an open window or go outside because it is not letting you go till you are finished reading it. I have no phobias and fears but even I felt uncomfortable near the end when those pages start where I am telling you to go out or open a window. It happened to me because I imagined myself in that kind of situation with my huge shoulders. It is not easy to explain the story and situations without spoilers and I am not going to spoil this book for you as with all other reviews I did before this.

The main thing that grabbed me by the heart was the story of the nephew of the main guy. I was very close to my nephew but for some family issues I had to stay far away from him and that was so painful for me because he loved me and cried for me whenever he saw me online, so I never came in front of the camera if he was online. I read this book in those days and that made this book very close to my heart and surely it will do the same to you too. I am basically Sergeant Mark Stiltzer from this novel minus what happened in this book except for the love he had for his nephew. Any why this book reminded me of my nephew a lot and hurt me bad. I wish I can go back in time and be with him again in those times when he was just a baby. Ok moving on before we all cry…

The story grips you from the start and gives you twist after twist and then lifts you up and then turns you over and slams you hard on the grand but still doesn’t let you go.

Mr. David Wiltse writes great action and mixes drama and suspense very well. I love a writer who can make you do what is happening on the paper and the words are becoming reality as you read, like make you breathe hard or even make you stop breathing or make you think you are underwater and can’t breathe. That is called magical writing. Reading this book was pure magic.

Ok, something that I didn’t like was the ladies in this book and I think some of you may think the same for one of them for sure. Please do comment or message me about this girl and what you thought about her after reading the book.

Synopsis:
“He is an American, a patriot... and a disciplined commando trained to infiltrate and destroy. But a war game gone awry has turned Sergeant Mark Stitzer into a haunted victim of his own madness, a walking instrument of death. Now he is on his own mission -- a mission of vengeance, a journey into hell.

Hunted by the men who trained him, lured by the one person he trusts, he prowls the city, as stealthy as an animal on its own killing grounds. No one, not the police, not the FBI, not the U.S. Army know how to stop him... and no one can predict the terror he is about to unleash.”

I will not ruin the points just because of a miner bad taste from this book due to the ladies I was talking about because that is what the writer intended, same as I am writing this review and it is in my hands to give the points. So I chose to give 100 points in my nephew’s name. but really this book is worth 100 points and you can surely spend quality time reading this great thriller.
