The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Published: 13, June 2017

Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Genres: Bisexual, LGBTQ, Romance, Women's, Fiction, Adult, Love, Drama, Contemporary, Domestic Life, Historical

I was not planning to read this book yet but had to start it a week ago because I am reading a lot of books from this genre these days so I decided to give it a go and I was not disappointed. This book is worth it and deserves all the praise a reader can give.

I think it was too fast and I finished it as if I was in a dream. It is not a bad thing to say about this book and I am saying it as a compliment; I mean it was so good like a good teacher’s classroom where an hour feels like a few minutes. I loved the story because it kind of makes you a part of the story.

Reid excels at creating intriguing, distinctive, and complex relationship dynamics that are entertaining to read about. They're convincing enough that you can suspend your disbelief and immerse yourself in the plot.

Evelyn Hugo's character, I believed, was also quite well-developed. She has such a distinct personality with all of her flaws and practicality that it makes for a far more compelling story than if she were a faultless heroine who always does the right thing. It's also a thematically consistent persona, which makes her feel more real as if she's a real person.

Some parts feel very simple in the story department but still, this novel was very pleasant to read. The author does an excellent job of developing a fully realized and nuanced heroine and placing her in an engaging context. This is a great book to read if you want something light yet with enough content and character development to make it an enjoyable read.

Really recommended to everyone but don’t forget it is for adults only.

Synopsis:
“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“If you’re looking for a book to take on holiday this summer, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has got all the glitz and glamour to make it a perfect beach read.” —Bustle

From the New York Times bestselling author of Daisy Jones & the Six—an entrancing and “wildly addictive journey of a reclusive Hollywood starlet” (PopSugar) as she reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

“Heartbreaking, yet beautiful” (Jamie Blynn, Us Weekly), The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is “Tinseltown drama at its finest” (Redbook): a mesmerizing journey through the splendor of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it costs—to face the truth.”

The Last Templar

Published: 2005

Author: Raymond Khoury

Genres: Women's Adventure Fiction, Heist Thrillers, Adventure, Romance, Christian Historical Fiction

While I was writing this review, the first thing that came to my mind was the places where I read this book and what it is about because it took me a week to finish it and all of it was done on airplanes and in airports; and the book is full of adventure, twists and turns, and plots expanding thousand plus years. It is long with more than five hundred plus pages but it is so fast-paced that you won't even notice it when you are near the end and you feel why it is so short because you'll want more of this book and its writing style by Mr. Raymond Khoury.

This is the debut work by the author but feels like he is doing it for a long time and is a pro. He created the feeling that I am about to find a huge secret hidden for a long time and that made me turn page after page to know more about it.

“Like The Da Vinci Code, Khoury’s novel features age-old mysteries that play out in a modern setting.”—The New York Times

But don't think of this book as a copy or inspired work because it is original and beautiful. One of the reasons this book makes you turn page after page is the sudden twists but better you read the book to find out about it because I don't like to spoil the books by revealing anything.

From The Back Cover
"In 1291, a young Templar knight flees the fallen holy land in a hail of fire and flashing sword, setting out to sea with a mysterious chest entrusted to him by the Order's dying grandmaster. The ship vanishes without a trace. In present-day Manhattan, four masked horsemen dressed as Templar Knights stage a bloody raid on the Metropolitan Museum of Art during an exhibit of Vatican treasures. Emerging with a strange geared device, they disappear into the night. The investigation that follows draws archaeologist Tess Chaykin and FBI agent Sean Reilly into the dark, hidden history of the crusading knights—and into a deadly game of cat and mouse with ruthless killers—as they race across three continents to recover the lost secret of the Templars."

The rating is not 100% just because some people may not want to read stuff related to religion but believe me it is not just about religion; it is just used to tell a great adventure story with messages and makes you think about your beliefs and morals and then offers you to choose whatever you want to think and believe.

The Book of Flying

Originally published: 2004

Genres: Fantasy Fiction, Adventure Fiction, Adult Fantasy

This book is on top of the list of my favourite books, and it has many reasons for that.

I bought this book only because I wanted to help the bookseller and was not expecting anything special coming out of it, mainly due to the cover design, and didn't even read it for almost a year after I bought it. I confess that I was wrong because I never judge a book by its cover, and this book proves the saying perfectly. After I read it and found out that this book was not popular; I knew it was due to the cover. I recommend it to everyone who is reading this text. I felt every emotion possible while reading it. It made me sad and happy. Made me laugh and cry. Made me hate and love. I am not going to give anything away because I want you to feel every word you read just like I felt. In simple words, this book is an endless rollercoaster ride of emotions and feelings.

Warning: I am a very open-minded person, but still, I feel some parts are not for young readers, so I call it a book for adult readers.
