The Review:

With excellent narrative, Jeremy Bates once again demonstrated his talent. His imagination breathed new life into old rumors, and the conclusion of his prologue was completely unexpected. This is a book I would suggest to everyone who appreciates a fantastic story with a lot of twists and turns. This book is fantastic.

When I used the word fantastic, it was for people who enjoy twists and craziness, and the ending of this book is completely insane, but I still loved it because of how insane it was. Many readers may not like it, as they have with almost all of Jeremy Bates' endings.

I am sure Jeremy Bates' writing gets better and better with each new book I read. I'd like to say more, but I don't want to give anything away. All I can say is that the book did not go in the direction I expected, which is amazing. The entire time, you're left wondering. His take on the events at the Chelsea Hotel is brilliant, inventive, and engaging. As always, I must add that he is a really brilliant writer whose books just blow the reader's mind.

I have to admit that this was the weakest book in the series. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't up to the others' standards. The book began with the impression that it couldn't possibly be anything but a fantastic read, what with the wonderful characters and the fascinating history of Hotel Chelsea. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Because of the novel's many twists and turns, I found myself wondering where the story was going, but the problem with me is that I always give all writers a chance, even unknown ones, and Jeremy Bates is already an established author, so I read all the way to the end and was not dissatisfied, as I had observed in many other readers.

Final Thoughts:

Readers will be divided once more due to the way the second half of the book changes direction and then the final half was completely insane due to the extremely unexpected ending. For me, it was a very interesting twist that is very close to what I am telling people about the supernatural and science, as well as how people around the world think differently depending on culture and literature. This novel has nothing to do with what I'm saying, but it's very close, and I can't even discuss it because of spoiler issues.

Even if you like Jeremy Bates, you might not like what happens at the end this time. I still gave it a lot of points because I liked the story and the ending, but others may give it five to ten points less than I did. Don't give up or lose hope in him because Jeremy Bates is an exceptional writer, and even though his books get low scores, he continues to write great stories with great plots and twists that become even better because of close to life flawed characters that are sometimes so annoying that readers begin to hate the book and author, but I love that in a writer and especially in a book. So read the book and make your own decision.

The Secret of Crickley Hall

Check the summary of this book here:

Once again, one of the spookiest books I've ever read, and one of the top five contenders for the scariest novels I've ever read. True, I've read scarier stories, but the way this one gets under your skin is a testament to the author Mr. James Herbert’s excellent writing.

The beginning was a little slow, but you're just getting a tour of the place, and the way everything is described is incredible. Later on, you'll understand why everything was basically coded into your brain, and you'll appreciate the slow start, but at the time, you'll be looking for places to hide or, in many cases, attempting to stop reading to look around with Goosebumps all over your body.

Crickley Hall is the name of a mansion that contains everything a haunted house story can offer. The third half of the novel picks up speed, and the ending feels rushed, but I believe this was just the way things unfolded, and it was not intentional. That is, in a nutshell, what the story demanded.

The family that comes to live in this house was a good family who had something tragic happens to them, and that thing will unfold with the story and become intertwined with what is going on in this house.

As with lots of good stories I think it is impossible to tell more about the novel because it will ruin the fun out of reading so just read the book and be scared.

This book was made into a television series, but I've never seen it, so I can't comment on whether it was good or not. Please share your thoughts with us if you've seen the movie and read the book. I'm too busy to watch TV shows or movies right now, but if I do, I'll post my thoughts here, so keep an eye on this page.

Warning: I think its best if you don't start the last half of the book too close to bedtime because I know you won't be able to put it down until it's finished.

This is my 100th book review on this blog and if you actually are reading these words then thank you so much for sticking till this point. I am adding public domain (classic free books) on my blog and you can directly read them in your browser just by clicking the link here: Free Books.

Synopsis:

“The Secret of Crickley Hall is James Herbert’s number one bestseller. It explores the darker, more obtuse territories of evil and the supernatural. With brooding menace and rising tension, he masterfully and relentlessly draws the reader through to the ultimate revelation – one that will stay to chill the mind long after the book has been laid aside.

The Caleighs have had a terrible year . . . They need time and space, while they await the news they dread. Gabe has brought his wife, Eve, and daughters, Loren and Cally, down to Devon, to the peaceful seaside village of Hollow Bay. Perhaps here they can try, as a family, to come to terms with what’s happened to them . . .

Crickley Hall is an unusually large house on the outskirts of the village at the bottom of Devil's Cleave, a massive tree-lined gorge – the stuff of local legend. It's perfect for them, if a bit gloomy. And Chester, their dog, seems really spooked at being away from home. And old houses do make sounds. And it's constantly cold. And even though they shut the cellar door every night, it’s always open again in morning . . .”

The Amityville Horror

Published: 13, September 1977

Author: Jay Anson

Genres: Demonology & Satanism, Fiction, Ghosts & Hauntings, Horror, Literature, Religious Cults, Supernaturalism, True Crime

Check the summary of this book here:

It's one of the scariest books I've ever read. The book is said to be based on the Lutz family's paranormal experiences, but it has sparked controversy over its factual accuracy.

This is one of my all-time favorite horror books, and I challenge anyone to read it alone in a house that looks and feels exactly like the one described in the book. I know some readers, like myself, can do it, but not everyone can, and I'm sure many readers will stop reading before they get to the middle of the book. Only two books come close in terms of terror, one is "The Secret of Crickley Hall" and I can't recall the title of second right now. (As soon as I confirm the name, I'll add the name and review.) The reason I said readers like me can read it is that we have become immune to the horror as a result of our constant exposure to it.

Much of what has been said about this house is true, and one of the real individuals involved died in prison in March 2021. I'm not sure if everything was true, but reading about real people who died as a result of their involvement with this house and the manner in which they died is a little creepy.

Although both adaptations, the original and remake of the book are entertaining, I believe the book comes out on top when it comes to injecting liquid ice into your body and making your hair stand on end. However, you can watch the movies and read the book in any order you want. Both the original and remake versions were different, but they both perfectly captured the book's creepy and scary elements.

The only issue I had with this book was the way the author lengthened it by including details that were not necessary in my opinion, but this could be due to his writing style. Aside from that, it's a fantastically chilling and entertaining read.

Synopsis:

“A fascinating and frightening book” (Los Angeles Times)—the bestselling true story about a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.

In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property—complete with boathouse and swimming pool—and the price had been too good to pass up.

Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.

This is the spellbinding, shocking true story that gripped the nation about an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining—“this book will scare the hell out of you” (Kansas City Star).”
