He was an American author best known for The Amityville Horror, his most renowned book. Following the phenomenal popularity of that novel, he published 666, which included a haunted home as well. In 1980, he passed away.
The Amityville Horror, based on the claimed experiences of George and Kathleen Lutz at 112 Ocean Avenue in December 1975, was promoted as a "real story." The book's rights had been sold to Anson, who had expanded and modified some of the Lutzes' initial assertions. In 1979, a film adaptation of the novel was released, which showcased these additions. A year later, he died.
