Before watching Jurassic Park the movie, I had no idea who Michael Crichton is and the movies like Congo, Westworld, and The Andromeda Strain had anything to do with him. One day I was in the book store and saw the novel Jurassic Park and grabbed it as soon as I saw it. The first thing I wanted to know was “who is this ghostwriter called Michael Crichton” and was shocked to know all these movies were adaptations of his books and some movies were actually made by him. He was an amazing writer and I read all his books after that. Sadly he is not with us and we can’t have any more of his great writing and movies.

When you read this book, you miss the writer even more, because he was able to combine so much in one story and was able to pull it off perfectly without burdening or confusing the reader’s mind. Like this book had hard science where he is explaining deep-sea life, and then you are reading about black holes, and then you are diving into the mysteries of the human imagination and the dark parts or shadows of the human mind and unconscious and then he is teaching us the morals and moralities plus so much more.

For me, this book was not that huge even though it has 385 pages on the paperback version, but still, I felt it was too short because you want to read more and more of what is happening and once you realize what is actually happening, you want to see even more ways this story can go on and the possibilities that can come with the knowledge that is happening in the story and with the main characters. The suspense and thrill and the want to know more about the sphere and the mystery surrounding it are going to pound your brain for a long time, even after you finish this book.

The movie adaptation received a mixed reaction but I really enjoyed it. But as with almost every adaptation of a book, this movie has stuff that is changed from what it was in the book. One of my cousin's started screaming and started gasping for air during an intense scene and we had to take him out to get him to calm down.

Like many of my favorite writers, Mr. Michael Crichton was unique because he always came up with great and strange ideas that are kind of realistic if you think of them with an open mind. I'll review all his books with intervals even I know you’ll not get bored if you read all his books as a marathon but still, I must shuffle the reviews to keep all the readers from different genres happy.

Synopsis:
“From the author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Congo comes a psychological thriller about a group of scientists who investigate a spaceship discovered on the ocean floor.

In the middle of the South Pacific, a thousand feet below the surface, a huge vessel is unearthed. Rushed to the scene is a team of American scientists who descend together into the depths to investigate the astonishing discovery. What they find defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship, but apparently it is undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old, containing a terrifying and destructive force that must be controlled at all costs.”

2001: A Space Odyssey

Once again I am about to write the same sentence that I wrote about a good science fiction book called “Project Hail Mary”… This is how a science fiction book is written, with science in it, not just science it is called hard science and it is a book genre. Grandmaster Arthur C. Clark was basically giving us all a class in how to write a science fiction book without making it into a fantasy. Here I must confess that I believe science fiction and fantasy are basically the same thing but are the two sides of the same coin. Comment and tell me what you think?

Before you judge me, I said the writer wrote hard science fiction, which means if you write carefully, the reader never even notices that it is basically fantasy because all the facts and research backs you up and it becomes reality even some of the theories were never tested. One example of magic, fantasy, and Science Fiction combined is the series called “Darkness (World at War)” you can check one of these book's review here,  and one more series that I am reading is about a boy who becomes immortal and according to the writer, she is writing this series as a mix of almost all the genres, it means she is going to add magic, science fiction, and fantasy and many more genres in her upcoming books and I am so excited for that. At the moment only two books are out. Check the books called Queen of Egypt and Pharaoh’s destruction from the series In Pursuit Of Death by Ruby.K Gold.

Okay back to the book I am supposed to review, 2001: a Space Odyssey. Basically, it doesn’t matter what I write about this book, it is always going to be one of the greatest science fiction books of all time. It is not huge like Sir Arthur C. Clark’s other mammoth series but it leaves something with you and makes you wonder about yourself, the universe, and creation.

Do not watch the movie until you are done with the book or if you already watched it, then read the book to understand what was happening because the movie can't show you what is being thought and what is in the background of some things that happened on screen.

Without giving away anything, I can only tell the reader that this book is the story of humanity and much more if you go deep into the story.

Synopsis:
“The classic science fiction novel that captures and expands on the vision of Stanley Kubrick’s immortal film—and changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves.

From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man ventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

This allegory about humanity’s exploration of the universe—and the universe’s reaction to humanity—is a hallmark achievement in storytelling that follows the crew of the spacecraft Discovery as they embark on a mission to Saturn. Their vessel is controlled by HAL 9000, an artificially intelligent supercomputer capable of the highest level of cognitive functioning that rivals—and perhaps threatens—the human mind.

Grappling with space exploration, the perils of technology, and the limits of human power, 2001: A Space Odyssey continues to be an enduring classic of cinematic scope.”

Project Hail Mary

Originally Published: 4, May 2021
Author: Andy Weir
Genres: Science Fiction, Adventure, Space Opera, Humor

This is how a science fiction book is written, with science in it. It is Mr. Andy Weir’s third novel, after 2011's The Martian, and 2017's Artemis.

It is going to remind you of The Martian but think of The Martian as a kindergartener and this book as a senior about to graduate. Sometimes my brother tells me not to praise a book so much to the point of making people think that I am getting paid to promote a book, this book is one of those books where I want to tell the reader to just buy the book and start reading. It is AMAZING.

While reading this, I don’t know why, I wanted to reread the classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” by one of the science fiction giants, Arthur C. Clarke. (My next review is going to be of this great book)

The characters are all loveable but in some cases, can feel two-dimensional but it doesn’t get in the way of the story and you are surely going to finish the book in four to five hours max. Once you start you’ll finish or won’t be able to concentrate on anything else until you are done with this book.

Only a few letdowns. If you think the environment is safe and global warming is fake, and if you think science, engineering, and electric issues in a spaceship can’t happen, then do not read this or be warned that it is kind of based on real science that some people think is not real. The book can be a little bit longer for some readers who don’t like to read the details of how stuff works and how something happened.

I am giving the rating based on the people who are connected with the paragraph above this one; otherwise, it is a hundred percent recommended book.

Synopsis:
“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of The Martian, a lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this “propulsive” (Entertainment Weekly), cinematic thriller full of suspense, humor, and fascinating science—in development as a major motion picture starring Ryan Gosling.

“An epic story of redemption, discovery and cool speculative sci-fi.”—USA Today

“If you loved The Martian, you’ll go crazy for Weir’s latest.”—The Washington Post

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.”
