Captain Sinbad Review

Captain Sinbad Review

Captain Sinbad

Published: 1980
Author: Graham Diamond
Genres: Fiction, Adventure, Fantasy, Thriller, Romance

Like a lot of kids and even grownups, I was and am in love with captain Sinbad’s character and watched all the movies that came out with the name “Sinbad” in its title. This book is about captain Sinbad and his adventures but it is a little different than what you read about him before this or up until this point. The writer did a great job of portraying captain Sinbad the way we all love to see him in movies or read about him in the books.

All the characters in this book feel real and you are going to feel for all of them. One of the characters is a frog and I am sure you’ll fall in love with it and feel for it as a best friend and are going to care for it as well. So be ready for the ride of your life with captain Sinbad and get the book to read about this adventure full of action, romance, magicians, magic, curses, sea, a hint of satire and humor.

The story is fast paced and well written, you are going to spend a quality time while reading this book. Easy to read and fun to imagine in the back of your head. It was something new in the way it was written and style felt different than a normal book of this genre. Simply great and exciting read.

Synopsis:
“His greatest adventure, and greatest test…

Nearly two centuries before Marco Polo’s travels to Cathay, there lived in the fabled city of Baghdad the famed rogue and adventurer Sinbad.

Tales spoke of the mighty Captain Sinbad: adventurer, soldier, poet, and mariner.

When Sinbad washes up on the shores of Pansa, it is surely a good sign for the young women of the village. As the handsome and mysterious stranger recovers, he is begged of a particular beauty to recall his adventures and what led him to this point.

But his travels have not been without trouble.

Driven from home and the arms of his beloved Scheherazade, Sinbad has become an outlaw voyaging across the Seven Seas.

The corrupt Caliph of Baghdad has taken Sinbad’s love to be his wife, and now Sinbad must flee for his life.

But soon, he learns of a magical flower, the Red Dahlia, that grants a wish to the person who crushes it.

What follows is a daring journey as Sinbad sails from Jaffa to Damascus on his quest to find the mythical Red Dahlia. With a cast of crewmembers aboard his ship, Captain Sinbad must make his way through hell or high water, and on his adventure he will encounter things he never thought possible…

Nothing will stand in his way.

Captain Sinbad is a gripping mythical fantasy adventure set in the medieval Middle East.”

I wanted to give it a 90 or 95 rating because some people may not like it just to show “class” to other “classy people,” but then, I remembered this novel is for the fans of Sinbad so why not give it points that a fan is supposed to give to a book that is basically written as fan service to the fans.

Nightmares & Dreamscapes

Published: 1993
Author: Stephen King
Genres: Horror, Science Fiction, U.S. Short Stories, Short Stories, Fiction

I have all the books by Mr. Stephen King, except for the ones that are not published yet.

I bought this book because…because it was written by Stephen King. It is not the cover and not the size of the book and not even the price; it is simply his name that sells his books.

This book is a huge collection of short stories by writer Stephen King. Some of these stories were already published and a few were never been published before. Some of these stories were adapted as movies and short series. But mainly this book was adapted as a series with stories televised as separate short episodes.

Some of these stories will take your sleep away and you won’t be able to close your eyes. But I actually don’t feel scared because I think after reading these books, I feel brave, strong, and humbled. Not all stories are scary or “horror” you’ll love it as a compilation of short stories by The King. Some may bore you but still, it depends on your taste and what you were expecting. For me all the stories were great, some fast and some slow but in the end I was happy and satisfied after finishing the book. Am I going to read this book again? YES and maybe, if I have time but surely I’ll read a few of the stories again, and again, but with an interval of a year or so...or maybe with a close friend or my nephew or niece if they are into books.

Start this book by reading “The Moving Finger.” … One of the greatest ideas for a scary book and a movie or a long televised series, but Stephen King didn’t do it as with many many many of his great short stories.

Two more of my favorites were “The Night Flier” and “Popsy.”

One more story that felt close to my heart was about revenge and it involves a car and an old man; just read and find out which one is it and enjoy the slow burn and finally the great satisfaction at the end of that story.

From the back cover:
“Includes the story “It Grows on You”—set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine

The classic short story collection from #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King. A wrong turn on a lonely road lands a wayward couple in Rock and Roll Heaven, Oregon, where there’s no escaping the free nightly concert….A novelty toy becomes an unexpected and terrifying instrument of self-defense….An ex-con pieces together a map to unearth a stolen million dollars—but at what price?... A private investigator in Depression-era Los Angeles is finding his life unraveling as he discovers the shocking truth of who he really is….A third-grade teacher is willing to dig deep in order to exact revenge for his murdered wife.... These are just some of the haunting scenarios to be found in this classic collection—spellbinding tales from the darkest places and the unparalleled imagination of fiction’s master storyteller.”

Stories include:
-Dolan's Cadillac
-The End of the Whole Mess
-Suffer the Little Children
-The Night Flier
-Popsy
-It Grows on You
-Chattery Teeth
-Dedication
-The Moving Finger
-Sneakers
-You Know They Got a Hell of a Band
-Home Delivery
-Rainy Season
-My Pretty Pony
-Sorry, Right Number
-The Ten O'Clock People
-Crouch End
-The House on Maple Street
-The Fifth Quarter
-The Doctor's Case
-Umney's Last Case
-Head Down
-Brooklyn August

Even with some slow stories, I feel this book deserves 1000 points so I am giving it the following as always with any of Mr. King’s stories and books.

Rating: 100/100
Recommended: 100/100 YES.

From The Corner Of His Eye Review

Published: 2000
Author: Dean Koontz
Genres: Suspense Thrillers, Literature & Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Suspense Action Fiction, Fantasy Adventure Fiction

This book is long, very long, but while reading it, you won’t even notice the time, a true page turner and a masterpiece. One of very few good books that you can actually re-read and still enjoy it the same as you enjoyed it for the first time.

It has many memorable moments and some gave me goose bumps while reading; not because it was scary but the way something happen, I loved the times it happened to me.

The dimension hoping and miraculous stuff was one of the finest ideas this writer used, not too much and not as low as to just add a character trait to get attention from the general public, he actually used this properly.

This book is all about good and evil but with a twist to everything that is happening. Kid not getting wet in the rain and blind able to see are few of the crazy things in this story. The bad guy is one crazy and twisted person and Mr. Dean Koontz wrote him and all characters in a way that makes you see and feel what they are doing and feeling. He used this style to make you understand the motives of every one clearly. While writing this review I am planning to read the book again.

For me the ending was very satisfying and not just a rushed end like in many books after a great start and middle the end gets rushed and you feel robbed but not in this book so get ready for a long week and start reading this book.

I can’t tell anything but one murder by the bad guy was so confusing, sudden and heartbreaking that I had to restart and go back a few pages to confirm if I may have missed a page or two.

From the back cover:
“His birth was marked by wonder and tragedy. He sees beauty and terror beyond our deepest dreams. His story will change the way you see the world.

Bartholomew Lampion is born on a day of tragedy and terror that will mark his family forever. All agree that his unusual eyes are the most beautiful they have ever seen. On this same day, a thousand miles away, a ruthless man learns that he has a mortal enemy named Bartholomew. He embarks on a relentless search to find this enemy, a search that will consume his life. And a girl is born from a brutal rape, her destiny mysteriously linked to Barty and the man who stalks him.
At the age of three, Barty Lampion is blinded when surgeons remove his eyes to save him from a fast-spreading cancer. As he copes with his blindness and proves to be a prodigy, his mother counsels him that all things happen for a reason and that every person’s life has an effect on every other person’s, in often unknowable ways.

At thirteen, Bartholomew regains his sight. How he regains it, why he regains it, and what happens as his amazing life unfolds and entwines with others results in a breathtaking journey of courage, heart-stopping suspense, and high adventure.”

Synopsis:
“Dean Koontz writes a tale of good and evil, and how the concepts influence people's lives. The book begins with three separate stories that eventually intertwine: a loving relationship between a mother and her genius son, a ruthless killer, and a young woman who takes it upon herself to raise her late sister's baby.”

Sometimes I feel bad and frustrated because some books deserve more than 100 points or five stars and this book is one of those books.
