Godplayer

Published: May 1983

Author: Robin Cook

Genres: Medical Fiction, Medical Thrillers, Thrillers & Suspense

It's a medical thriller, like most of Robin Cook's previous work, that keeps the reader guessing until the very end and teaches a lot about medicine and the crimes that go along with it, making you think twice about going to the doctor after reading any of these books.

The book that made me a fan of Mr. Robin Cook was his first book “Coma” and after that, I never missed any of his books and I actually learned a lot about medicine and some procedures as if I am getting a short course in this profession because the author is an actual doctor and he knows how to combine both and create amazing stories that are scarily close to our reality.

This is a fast-paced thriller with mystery and suspense, but I didn't think it was as good as the author's earlier books, and it was my own fault because I went into this book with high expectations. The book and tale are fantastic; however, the finale was a little disappointing. Still a fantastic page-turner from a fantastic author. Don't worry; the book is wonderful; just don't have high expectations or you could be disappointed; otherwise, it's a fascinating, captivating, and delightful read.

Synopsis:
“Cassandra Cassidy, a beautiful psychiatrist, attempts to stop the mysterious killings of terminally ill patients as she struggles to save her crumbling marriage to Thomas Kingsley, a charismatic cardiac surgeon”

Based on a True Story: Not a Memoir

Published: 20, September 2016

Author: Norm Macdonald

Genres: Actor & Entertainer Biographies, Biographies of Actors & Actresses, Biographies of Comedians, Celebrity & Popular Culture Humor, Comedy, Humor Essays

This book is going to make you laugh and cackle like a crazy person. A very funny read that makes it clear that late Norm Macdonald was a very talented person. He died a few days ago and it made me remember all the laughs he gave me through his shows. He had his own style and that is what made him so unique in all the things he did and one of those things was his writing that you can enjoy in this book.

The book is as its name suggests, you can’t be sure of what is true and what is not if the author is really telling about something from his life or is he joking; basically, a mixture of fact, fantasy, and fiction are used to create magic that makes the reader laugh out loud, so be careful where and when you read this book.

I was not a fan of audiobooks but to save time I started listening to audio versions of the books. Some are kind of okay but if the author is the narrator then it changes everything especially if the narrator and author is someone like Norm Macdonald. I recommend the audio of this book to all the fans and anyone who loves humor in general. You’ll know why I recommended this audio once you listen to Norm Macdonald deliver a joke, he has his unique style of telling jokes and even if some jokes were old, they still felt funny and made me laugh, it was just the magic of his style.

Starting was a bit slow but just a small portion and after that, it gets pretty interesting. I must remind the readers about the author, he is not your typical celebrity so don’t expect a typical memoir. Only his name has “Norm” in it and normal stops at “m” when it comes to this guy.

A great read for the fans and everyone who loves to read funny stuff. He is no more but we can still appreciate this underappreciated comic genius by reading his book and watching his shows.

Synopsis:

“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “Driving, wild and hilarious” (The Washington Post), here is the incredible “memoir” of the legendary actor, gambler, raconteur, and Saturday Night Live veteran.

When Norm Macdonald, one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, was approached to write a celebrity memoir, he flatly refused, calling the genre “one step below instruction manuals.” Norm then promptly took a two-year hiatus from stand-up comedy to live on a farm in northern Canada. When he emerged he had under his arm a manuscript, a genre-smashing book about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war, and redemption. When asked if this was the celebrity memoir, Norm replied, “Call it anything you damn like.”

Daisy Jones & the Six

Published: 5, March 2019

Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Genres: Adult, Domestic Life, Family, Fiction, Literary, Sagas, Women's

This is the story of a fictional rock band from the seventies, the rise and fall, the drug use, the sex, the rock ‘n roll, and all of this is like reading an interview and it took me some time to get used to it, but once I was settled, it became a great page-turner. I know some readers are not going to like the style but I feel this was one of the best ways to introduce the band and all the characters. It comes out as personable, approachable, and believable enough to not be a hindrance.

The story is more than anything else a joyful book that conjures the sensation of excitement that comes with telling a refreshingly uplifting story about unrestrained, young, and creative people; it's pure entertainment. Upbeat and straightforward.

The “oral history”-meets-faux-documentary style works well in terms of the format. It's a light and breezy method to tell the narrative from a variety of perspectives; however, it certainly limits the more contemplative components of storytelling to some extent. Instead, it is up to the reader to decipher what is being communicated between the lines.

The idea of strong women is good but in some places, it felt kind of strange because a strong woman is not just what this story is telling us. But again, it may be unintentional because the way this book is written, actually limits many things and the writer can’t explain everything properly. As I mentioned earlier, this is like reading an interview and this style limits the storytelling.

Synopsis:

“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous breakup—from the author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and the new novel Malibu Rising, available now!

REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK • IN DEVELOPMENT AS AN ORIGINAL STREAMING SERIES EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY REESE WITHERSPOON

“An explosive, dynamite, down-and-dirty look at a fictional rock band told in an interview style that gives it irresistible surface energy.”—Elin Hilderbrand

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR • The Washington Post • Esquire • Glamour • Real Simple • Good Housekeeping • Marie Claire • Parade • Paste • Shelf Awareness • BookRiot

Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.”
