The Dark

Published: 13 July 2021

Author: Jeremy Robinson

Genres: Alien Invasion, Science Fiction, Adventure, Post-Apocalyptic, Supernatural, Thriller

One of the very few original stories that I read in a long time, it is full of twists and turns with darkness and horror and a protagonist who jokes a lot. I am not sure if I can add this book to comedy and humor genres just so I don’t take away the horror appeal of this book because I know many readers like me don’t want to read a horror that has comedy. After all, it is not actually horror if you add comedy but this book is different. The jokes show this character has kind of seen it all and that is what my opinion about him is but I want to know what everyone else thinks after reading the book so comment and message me about your thoughts.

Jeremy Robinson isn't your average writer. He writes with wit, compassion, and humanity. Without fail, his books are well-written, well-executed, and thought-provoking. His characters are flawed and complex and his stories are fast-paced and mind-bending.

The author writes mostly fast-paced stories but this book started a bit slow, just to give you an idea of what is happening and what is about to come, then it starts running and turns into a fast-paced page-turner. His imagination is wild and the ideas he has are amazing to read, I recommend reading all his books during the Halloween season. I am planning to review all his books very soon.

I was surprised to find a secret in this book and I can only say that it is connected to another book from the same author. I think it is better I must not mention the book at the moment so you can just read and find out for yourself.

This book makes you want to finish it in one sitting and once you are done, you are going to call yourself a fan of Jeremy Robinson.

Synopsis:

“From the twisted imagination of New York Times and #1 Audible bestselling author, Jeremy Robinson, comes a horrifying revelation about the centuries old Three Days of Darkness prophecy, during which the legions of Hell will be unleashed on the Earth...

THERE SHALL COME OVER THE WHOLE EARTH, AN INTENSE DARKNESS LASTING THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS.

Miah Gray is a twenty-seven-year-old, former Army soldier living in rural New Hampshire with his sister, mother, and her boyfriend. He is plagued by PTSD, finding solace, but not redemption, with the aid of prescribed cannabis. All he wants to do is get high, relax with a good sandwich, and watch a meteor shower with his neighborhood crush--Jen.

HE WHO OPENS HIS WINDOW OR DOOR OUT OF CURIOSITY, OR LEAVES HIS HOME, WILL FALL DEAD ON THE SPOT.

But when the sun's light is blotted out the following morning, and the world is plunged into darkness, Miah finds himself locked down with his family, covering windows with trash bags, lighting candles, and following the arcane rules of an ancient prophecy. But there is no escaping what comes next.

THE AIR WILL BE INFECTED BY DEMONS, APPEARING IN ALL SORTS OF HIDEOUS FORMS.

A brilliant flash of light fills the sky, leaving Miah changed, and an Old Norse death rune etched onto his forehead. He fears he has been marked for death until the neighborhood's parents start disappearing, and he's left behind. Leading Jen and a ragtag group of parentless kids, Miah hunts for answers and for their parents, while trying to keep his sister safe. He charges headlong down a path that will take him to the gates of Hell--and then straight through.

ALL OF HELL WILL BE LET LOOSE.

The Dark is a mind-bending and character driven sci-fi-infused horror novel like no other.”

The Food of the Gods

Originally Published: 1904

Author: H. G. Wells

Genres: Fiction Classics, Classic Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction

A classic story by a classic writer with a great mind that was far ahead of his time and we can still see his writing being used in many movies and his ideas being used by other authors. This book is like a plot and plot generator for monster movies.

All his books are like “what if” scenarios and he uses them well, the science, the aliens, the invisibility, time travel, and all the unusual stuff that he creates are so amazing to read and visualize.

When I was I kid I knew about this book was not able to find it for a long time, I even checked in libraries but no one had it when I was around. Many years later I just found it in a shop where it was not even possible to see a book, I found it in a computer shop. That night I read it in one sitting and was satisfied because all that time I spent searching for it was worth it.

I always hoped someone is going to make a series based on this book where normal-sized humans are struggling in a world full of giant creatures that can kill and eat humans and giant humans can’t even see normal-sized humans because they are like insects to them.

It starts a little slow but once the “food” is spread, it becomes a nightmare. You can call some of these parts “horror” but the way it is written makes it so normal for me, I am not sure what others are going to feel while reading those parts. Comment with your thoughts on this matter after reading the “pond” scene.

It is not just science fiction with giant creatures, you are going to find many things that hold their ground in our reality and that is hate and reasons for hating on the smallest things like color, size, religion, and many more things that are exploited by a few to control the masses.

I can say a lot about this book because it is a classic and must be read by everyone and shared with the new generations. Some of it can be slow but that is only because of the times it was written and that is how the books were written in those times, otherwise this book is a hundred percent recommended.

Synopsis:
“Mr Bensington and Professor Redwood were amongst that new breed of men - or 'scientists' as they had become known. They discover Herakleophorbia IV, a chemical foodstuff that accelerates growth, and, after a series of experiments, the countryside is overrun with giant chickens, rats, wasps and worms. Havoc ensues, but Benson and Redwood are undeterred and begin to use 'the food of the gods' on humans. Soon, children are growing up to 40 feet high. But where will the experiments end? H. G. Wells was responsible for an entirely new genre of writing. It was his bold, daring and hugely innovative books that first introduced readers to the concept of time travel, invisibility, genetic experimentation and interstellar invasion - ideas that have gone on to inspire future generations and given rise to the entire science fiction industry.”

The Darwin Awards

180 Bizarre True Stories of How Dumb Humans Have Met Their Maker

Published: 27, September 2001

Author/Editor: Wendy Northcutt

Genres: Comedy, Humor, Real Life Stories

The Darwin Awards are a satirical award that began in Usenet newsgroup discussions in 1985. They identify people who have allegedly contributed to human evolution by removing themselves from the gene pool by dying or sterilizing themselves through their own actions.

Some of the rules to be a candidate for this reward:
Because the award is intended to be humorous, the candidate's folly must be unique and sensational. Several silly but common activities, such as smoking in bed, are not taken into account. Self-immolation caused by smoking after receiving a flammable ointment in a hospital and being specifically told not to smoke is, on the other hand, grounds for nomination. Despite being intentional and self-inflicted (i.e. attempted suicide), one "Honorable Mention" (a man who attempted suicide by swallowing nitroglycerine pills and then attempting to detonate them by running into a wall) is noted to be in this category.

The first time I saw this book, I thought it is actually about people who won this prestigious Darwin award that I don’t even know about, so I bought the book without even reading what it is all about.

I was busy so I opened the book after a few days, hoping to find great people who know what evolution is and all the fields related to this subject but the moment I started reading the cover, it made me laugh at myself for not even noticing the front cover properly before that moment, but really this book was not a bad purchase, it was funny and sad at the same time because of the way these people died or harmed themselves.

This book is a collection of real people doing stuff that caused their own death. Remember this book is not a compilation of suicide gone perfect stories. Instead, it is just a sample of what the actual website has to offer, the author compiles, searches, and then posts the authentic stories on her website. These stories are just a few of the best self-elimination true stories from her website.

Don’t forget to read it in a place where you can laugh out loud without disturbing anyone because surely you are going to laugh like crazy while reading this book.

Not all stories are going to make you laugh because some may make you think of the people around these people and the people who they left behind and the dependants on these people. It can be very sad, horrific and even disgust can manifest your thoughts but it all depends on who you are and how you think.

A great fun read that you can finish in one sitting but you are going to feel sick if you do because of laughing too much. A hundred percent recommended read.

Synopsis:
“The Darwin Awards is the legendary web site which commemorates the remains of people who have improved our gene pool by killing themselves in really stupid ways! Practically everyone who is on the net has received a Darwin story in their e-mail at one time or another. It is one of those legendary web sites which have become part of the fabric of being on-line. Started in 1993 by biologist Wendy Northcutt she set out to collect together and authenticate stories of individuals around the world who, through their stupidity, have ‘removed themselves from the gene pool’ These are the people for whom warnings such as ‘coffee is hot’ and ‘this superman cape does not enable the wearer to fly’ were made . . .”
