The Girl on the Train

Published: 13, January 2015

Author: Paula Hawkins

Genres: Psychological, Women's, Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Literary Fiction, Women's Literature, British & Irish Literary Fiction, Contemporary Literary Fiction

This book is a first-person native with three different perspectives. Basically, three stories about the same topic but all are completely different. A sad book that can leave you depressed but somehow you are still going to read it page by page even if you want to stop but you won’t be able to do it. It is not because the writer has done something wrong; it is the characters that are going to make you feel that way but that is the beauty of this book. I think I see beauty in the ugliest things and yes this book is ugly because of the characters you are reading about.

This book is not as bad as many people say it is because everyone has a different taste and style. I loved the book, it was fast-paced and a true page-turner for me.

If you are a “Gone Girl” fan then this book is for you but read the review first and decide for yourself because it was a good story but maybe very depressing for many.

You may want to stop reading after a hundred or so pages but I think it is better to continue because the ending is worth it.

The style of writing is not for everyone but if you read the book with an open mind and don’t get into the habit of hating the characters then you’ll understand why the author did it and I think it was a necessity to do it. Even the style is different but really she is a clever author to pull this off in the end.

I never watched the movie adaptation of this book so I have no idea if the movie did justice to the book or not. (I’ll update this section if I watch the movie but at the moment I have no time to do that. Still, I am adding the link to the movie, so please comment and share what are your thoughts on the movie if you already watched it.)

Yes, I am not going to give more points just because this book is not for everyone and one of the reasons is the hype and hype is one of the most dangerous things for any great work.

“Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe

Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People

EVERY DAY THE SAME
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life--as she sees it--is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

UNTIL TODAY
And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?”

A Slow Fire Burning

Published: 31, August 2021

Author: Paula Hawkins

Genres: Psychological, Women's, Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Literary Fiction, Women's Literature

If you read the book called “The Girl on the Train” then you already are a fan of the author of this book. It is slow as its name suggests but don’t get fooled by this, this is a slow burn revenge story, and what an amazing story it is, with an ending that was not easy to guess.

You are going to find many stories running at once with different time frames, in some cases, it can be confusing but if you are a fan of this style of storytelling then you are in luck.

I normally finish a book in a day and In some cases, several books in a day but this book took me two days because I was reading a few more books and they were much faster in pace than this one. And because of that, I realized that this book is not for everyone due to the slow pace and that is one of its flaws that can’t be ignored if you want action and pace on every page so only buy this book if you are not expecting much from it plus you need to remember it is not “The Girl on the Train.”

You are basically reading five stories in one but none of the stories are connected to the others but later it all comes together and that is what you are wanting to know and that is why it feels so slow to read.

Not for everyone but really a clever book by a clever author. You just need to understand and wait till everything opens up and that is the true magic of this book.

The only reason I am not giving good points is the slow pace even though it was a clever story and the way of telling it was great but not everyone is going to like it.

Synopsis:
“AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The scorching new thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Girl on the Train.

“A Slow Fire Burning twists and turns like a great thriller should, but it's also deep, intelligent and intensely human.” – Lee Child

“Only a clairvoyant could anticipate the book’s ending” – New York Times

With the same propulsion that captivated millions of readers worldwide in The Girl on the Train and Into the Water, Paula Hawkins unfurls a gripping, twisting story of deceit, murder, and revenge.

When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them. When it comes to revenge, even good people might be capable of terrible deeds. How far might any one of them go to find peace? How long can secrets smolder before they explode into flame?

Look what you started.”

The Midnight Library

Published: 13, August 2020

Author: Matt Haig

Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Time Travel, Literary Fiction, Women's Literature, Fiction

I love science fiction and when it involves time travel then it becomes an even better read for me. This book is actually like reading infinite books or realities about one person and it was a great idea but it has a twist and that is called a lesson. This book is going to teach you a lesson about how you are living your life and no matter what; you have to learn to live with it. I think I already said too much so no more stuff related to the story.

The story is kind of very predictable and you can guess what is about to happen next but still, I liked it because sometimes it is nice to read a simple book with twists but not too heavy to make your brain explode on every page. You may feel and remember some regrets from your own life but the message is good and really teaches the reader to live his/her life to the fullest.

I learned a long time ago that even the small things in our life can be important when we don’t have them, even a simple moment with a loved one or just a smile from a family member that shows you love can become so beautiful and painful full at the same time when those loved ones are gone. This book is going to remind and teach you the value of small things like these and that is what I loved a lot. I felt sad on some occasions but not because of what was happening in the book, it was the small things that I just talked about few lines earlier.

I kind of felt angry at one of the main characters for the choices she made but that is what this book is all about. Just read and learn and think about the possibilities you can have if you had the chances like her in your life. The writer can create limitless books from this idea and a long TV series can start that can have unlimited episodes.

This book is really amazing and thought-provoking. I hope no one has to ever think of dying but if anyone ever thinks like that, then they must read this book before they harm themselves I recommend this book to everyone who is disappointed in life and feeling low, this book is going to change your whole perspective on life.

The only reason I am not giving full points is because of the simplicity and predictability of the story and some readers may not like it for these reasons, but it is still a hundred percent recommended book.
