Interview With The Vampire

Published: 5, May 1976

Author: Anne Rice

Series: The Vampire Chronicle: Book 1
Genres: TV & Movie Tie-In, Vampire, Horror, Ghost, Suspense, fiction, thriller, Paranormal, Fantasy, Gothic

As I mentioned before in one of my previous reviews of Miss. Anne Rice’s novels called “Christ The Lord: Out Of Egypt,” that my first introduction to her was after I watched the movie called “Interview with the vampire” but instead of reviewing this book, I reviewed the Baby Jesus book due to the respect I have for that book. Now it’s time to review the book that pushed me towards a long but amazing quest; the quest to read all the books written by Miss. Anne Rice.

This book is based on a short story Miss. Anne Rice wrote in 1968. It is said that she rewrote and expanded the novel after the death of her daughter Michelle, who inspired the child vampire Claudia (I am sorry for adding this info because I am not sure if it is true or not. If anyone knows the true nature of this info, then please tell me and I’ll fix this.) Despite receiving mixed reviews at first, the book spawned a slew of blockbuster sequels known collectively as The Vampire Chronicles. The novel was adapted more than once as a comic book, and a film adaptation starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in 1994. (I think a new TV adaptation is in the works. I’ll update this as soon as I confirm this.)

She is one of the best vampire storytellers in the business and if you are a fan of this genre and never read her books, then you are missing out on one of the greatest gifts that you can give to yourself. I must remind you that this book and series is not like what you are used to reading now; I mean the teenage version of vampire love stories. It is the Daddy of those books and is intended for adults with hardships and realities that can happen in a world of vampires where you can see and feel what all the characters do, see and feel because the author wrote them as if she was painting them on a canvas. They all are well-written, well-developed, and evolving characters. That’s how good she is with her writing and character building.

I suggest you read the series in order. (I’ll provide the list later in this review for your convenience.)

Warning: People who are suffering from loneliness or suffering from a tragedy in life must wait till they are feeling normal and are sure that they are mentally healed. This book is like a memoir of vampire tragedy with almost all the aspects of life seen from the eyes of a vampire who has lived for more than two hundred years. You find many good and bad moments in life. You are going to cry and laugh, sob and suffer, gasp and scream and may realize many things from your life are shown in this story by using the magic of alternate words and worlds.

Synopsis:
“The spellbinding classic that started it all from the #1 New York Times bestselling author

“A magnificent, compulsively readable thriller . . . Rice begins where Bram Stoker and the Hollywood versions leave off and penetrates directly to the true fascination of the myth—the education of the vampire.”—Chicago Tribune

Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly sensual, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force—a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write.”

It's a masterpiece in general but a must-read for vampire and gothic fans. Even the readers who are not into the creatures of the night can read and enjoy this book and the series.

Friday The 13th

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th
Published: 2006
Author: Peter M. Bracke
Genres: History, Criticism, Horror, Movie Guides, Fantasy, Video Reference, TV & Movie Tie-In, Biography

One of my favorite combinations of day and date is coming and it means time to review a book related to “Friday The 13” and a bit about the movies with the same name.

One of my all-time favorite Characters is Jason Voorhees who needs no introduction if you are a fan of horror/slasher movies. I watched all these movies and bought all the comics, magazines, books, and even comedy if I saw Jason’s famous hockey mask on the cover. You can find many copies and copycats of Jason but he is always going to be the number one slasher.

Crystal Lake Memories is a visual memoir of these movies. Illustrated with nearly 600 photos, archives, and production materials. An amazing read if you are a fan of the series and it can be a great companion for the movie series collection that I mentioned near the end of this review or you can directly check it here. https://amzn.to/3jRI2i6

The hardcover version’s dimensions are as follows 9.5 x 1.11 x 12.4 inches and it is a treasure trove of behind the scenes info and tells the reader about how all and movies were made with all the detail and trivia, full of never before seen photos and interviews with the cast members. You can read this book and then watch the movies again to see missing things and find special places and parts that you never realized before.

After reading the book you gain an even greater appreciation of one of the greatest horror movie franchises in history while watching it again. If you are a fan of this franchise then I don’t have to tell you much about this part of the book.

This book is not just a story of this franchise. You are going to learn a lot about the cinema industry and how they can ruin a good franchise or a movie even before it is released or sometimes not even finished filming. Show business is not what people think of it and you may find many insights about this topic here.

Synopsis 1:
“'Friday the 13th' introduced moviegoers to a new kind of cinematic terror - shocking, visceral, and graphic. Spawning ten sequels, the series has become the most successful horror franchise. Illustrated with nearly 600 photos, archives, and production materials, this volume is a visual memoir of the series.”

Synopsis 2:
“For the past 30 years, cinematic icon Jason Voorhees has terrified audiences around the world, his long-running exploits spanning 11 films and generating over $600 million in box office receipts. Now, for the first time and in their own words, over 200 alumni of the series recall three decades of behind-the-scenes stories, struggles, controversies, and calamities. This Standard Text Edition has been fully revised and expanded upon the original hardcover print edition with new interviews and text material. Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th is the ultimate oral memoir of the most successful horror franchise in the history of motion pictures.”

Billy Summers

Published: 3, August 2021
Author: Stephen King
Genres: Crime, Thriller, Suspense, Action, Fiction, War, Military, Assassination, Mystery

At last, the wait is over and I was able to read this book. I was waiting for this one from April 2020 when Mr. Stephen King mentioned about writing this book in an interview and he mentioned that it is a crime novel about a hired assassin while talking to another great writer Mr. John Grisham.

This book has all you want in a book from a legendary author like The King. The story is about revenge, justice, fate, luck, love, war, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption. The subject is kind of the same as many of these stories, about good guys doing jobs that are not what their heart wants to do, and they want out, but a twist is waiting for them at the final moment when they think it is the last job before they can be free of doing what they never wanted to do.

This book may feel like two different books once the slow pace of the first half shifts into the fast-paced action in the second half of the book. Don’t worry, it is slow at the start for a reason and I am sure it is going to make the second half even more interesting and you are going to feel for the main characters because of that slow start but the ending is surely going to make you forget if this book was ever slow. The book has more than five hundred pages but it is still a good page-turner.

One thing that I loved was the amount of Easter eggs that the author added from his previous books. Don’t forget to mention in comments about your thoughts and how many of these Easter eggs you found.

Keep in mind this book is not what you are used to reading by this writer but some parts may disturb you, especially the war crimes and stuff like that. It is not openly discussed but still, it may make some readers feel disturbed.

One thing is for sure as it was mentioned in the synopsis, and that is: You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.

Synopsis:
“From legendary storyteller and #1 bestseller Stephen King, whose “restless imagination is a power that cannot be contained” (The New York Times Book Review), comes a thrilling new novel about a good guy in a bad job.

Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?

How about everything.

This spectacular can’t-put-it-down novel is part war story, part love letter to small town America and the people who live there, and it features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who set out to avenge the crimes of an extraordinarily evil man. It’s about love, luck, fate, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption.

You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.”
