Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Originally Published: 1986
Author: Frank Miller
Genres: Dystopian, DC Comics, Graphic Novels, Mystery, Super Hero, Batman, Superman, Robin, Joker

This comic was published as a four-part miniseries. The main series was called Batman: The Dark Knight and every issue had a different subtitle.

But later, when the series was collected into a single volume, the title of the first issue was applied to the entire series; The Dark Knight Returns.

I don’t care what anyone says but this is the greatest comic book ever written and no doubt one of the best comic art about batman. The story is set in an alternate timeline on earth-31. The dialogue, the fights, the brutality, the courage, and the way batman shows what he can do at the age of 55 is so amazing. I read it, I reread it, I watched it and I watched it many, many times, and still planning to watch the animated version again.

The fight between Batman and Mutant leader is one of the greatest fights of Batman, even the fight between Batman and Superman is nothing compared to this one. You really need to watch the animated version also to feel what I am feeling at the moment; I want to go and start punching the walls to satisfy the urges that I am having while writing about that particular part of the comic. The reason Batman did what he did was what this world needs at the moment.

The Dark Knight Returns is one of the most influential Batman stories ever published and it helped reintroduce a darker and more mature-oriented version of Batman in pop culture. Various elements of the series have since been incorporated in other aspects of Batman media and many other comics and even movies tried to use this style and way of storytelling.

Lots of times I read about people joking about batman and his fans. I think they don’t understand the concept of batman. It is not the plot armor or fan boys/gals who want to see batman win or it’s not that Batman is going to win every fight. The reason batman is what he is and why he is the greatest hero and champion of his fans is that; HE IS A HUMAN and that is relatable.

Yes, he is a human who is willing to fight till the end even he has to fight a god for a cause, and what is his cause? To save humanity and to be on the correct path. He is not a hero, he is an idea and gives hope that anyone can be batman, we all can be batman and I think this comic is a perfect way to understand this.

Synopsis:
“Writer/artist Frank Miller completely reinvents the legend of Batman in this saga of a near-future Gotham City gone to rot, 10 years after the Dark Knight’s retirement. Forced to take action, the Dark Knight returns in a blaze of fury, taking on a whole new generation of criminals and matching their level of violence. He is soon joined by a new Robin—a girl named Carrie Kelley, who proves to be just as invaluable as her predecessors.

Can Batman and Robin deal with the threat posed by their deadliest enemies, after years of incarceration have turned them into perfect psychopaths? And more important, can anyone survive the coming fallout from an undeclared war between the superpowers—or the clash of what were once the world’s greatest heroes?

Hailed as a comics masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns is Frank Miller’s (300 and Sin City) reinvention of Gotham’s legendary protector. It remains one of the most influential stories ever told in comics, with its echoes felt in all media forms of DC’s storytelling. Collects issues #1-4.”

TIC TAC TOE

A BOOK FULL OF TIC TAC TOE GRIDS - 3 x 3 - 4 x 4 - 5 x 5
Published: 21, December 2020
Author: Ruby.K Gold
Genres: Game, Entertainment, Puzzles

Really not my style but a friend offered this book to check so I can review it. I only say what comes to my mind and I think it is not a bad idea to buy a book like this to give to your kids or even play with them, but don’t beat them too much, let them win a bit to build confidence. And don’t just let them win all the time, it is not good either.

This is not actually a book that you read. It is a book full of grids consisting of forty pages each of 3 x 3 – 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 grids that you can use to play the game called TIC TAC TOE.

X and O are the two players in Tic-Tac-Toe. The game is played on grids, with the winner being the first person to make their own marks in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The game is called a tie if all squares are filled and no player has a row.

I loved the concept of this kind of book and enjoyed playing with my family. Much better than keeping my head down at a mobile or eyes glued to the TV screen. The best thing I liked was the scorecard on top of every page. It feels like you are having a tournament with a sibling or a cousin. And once you master the 3 x 3 grids, you can move on to 4 x 4 and then 5 x 5. The author is planning to publish a multilevel grids edition also but she wants to wait till at least a thousand copies of this book are sold.

I can’t share the pages because it is not allowed due to the Copywrite issue, but surely this is a simple but effective book to have a good family time or a sibling matchup.

Note: From now on, I am open to reviewing these kinds of books also but don’t forget, I will only write what is true to me.

Synopsis:
“This book is filled with grids of 3x3 - 4x4 - 5x5; you just need a friend or family member and something to write to use this book. If you want more challenge then get the second version of this book with grids above 5x5 and even multilevel grids for you to compete. Tic-tac-toe (American English) Noughts and crosses (Commonwealth English),Xs and Os/“X’y O’sies” (Ireland), is a paper-and-pencil game for two players. Playing Tic-Tac-Toe can help a child predict the outcome of another’s moves. It helps children develop strategy at an early age. Though not a hard strategy it requires some thought as a youngster, such as blocking the other player and keeping them from winning while trying to win yourself. It prepares them for more complex games because it helps you think of multiple things at once.”

I liked the price also; it is actually very cheap for the size of this kind of book and the quality of time that it provides. And that is why I am giving it full points. Now I am waiting for the multilevel version but for that, we must help the author sell a thousand of these books.

People We Meet on Vacation

Published: 11, May 2017
Author: Emily Henry
Genres: Psychological, Romance, Comedy, Fiction, Women, Family, Relationships

This book is about a slow-burn romance that grabs you by the heart and holds you tightly. Books like this are hard to find and feel so short even with this huge page-turner because I always feel, I want more but alas I am already at the last page. It took a big part of a day to finish it including food breaks and a nap on the beach but I was not able to stop as with any good story and characters that feel real and worth caring for.

Some people may not like this but as a reader who is not into romance, I still liked it, not just like a romance, it was funny and the women in this story are funny and this comedy doesn't feel forced.

It is about family, friends, relationships, and love. All of this is perfectly placed and beautiful. But slow if I think from a mind of a reader who is used to reading fast-paced romances and action. To them, this book may feel boring, but if you know what responsibility is and how a person cares for his/her family, then you can follow the story, it is a long story spanning twelve years in the life of two friends to lovers the secret feelings towards each other but not telling has its own beauty and pain at the same time. In simple words a journey of strangers to friends to lovers with so much in between to make you tear up at later parts of the book. I think it is better to share your feelings with everyone, especially with your family and then if you are sure about someone who you think is your soul mate.

For me it was BEAUTIFUL.

The only reason I am not giving full points is the parts that were too slow for some readers, otherwise, it is hundred percent recommended.
