Biography
William Peter Blatty is the author of the popular novel The Exorcist, which he adapted into an Academy Award-winning screenplay.
He was a humorous novelist before launching a four-decade career as a Hollywood screenwriter, authoring screenplays for films including A Shot in the Dark, What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?, Julie Andrews' romantic comedy Darling Lili, and The Ninth Configuration (which he also directed), among many more.
He was a Georgetown University graduate who resided in Bethesda, Maryland, with his widow Julie. He died on January 12, 2017.
