Stephenie Meyer's life shifted dramatically on June 2, 2003. The stay-at-home mother of three small kids awoke from a nightmare with seemingly real characters that she couldn't shake.
"Despite having a million things to do, I stayed in bed, pondering about the dream" (such as cooking breakfast for hungry children, dressing and changing the diapers of said children, and locating the swimsuits that no one ever puts away in the appropriate spot).
Unwillingly, I got up and took care of the urgent requirements before putting everything else on hold and sitting down at the computer to write—something I hadn't done in so long that I wasn't sure why I was bothering."
Stephenie Meyer came up with the story while taking swimming classes and toilet training during the day, then wrote it down late at night when the home was quiet. Twilight, her debut novel, was completed three months later.
Twilight was one of the most talked-about books of 2005, debuting at #5 on The New York Times bestseller list just weeks after its release.
Twilight has received several accolades, including being named one of the "ALA Top Ten Books for Young Adults," an Amazon.com "Best Book of the Decade So Far," and a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. Twilight was released in theaters nationwide on November 21, 2008, by Summit Entertainment. starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
New Moon, the much awaited sequel, was released in September 2006 and lasted 31 weeks at the top of The New York Times bestseller list. Eclipse, the third installment in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga, was released on August 7, 2007, and sold 150,000 copies on its first day.
The book landed at #1 on national bestseller lists such as USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book in the Twilight Saga, was released on August 2, 2008, with a first printing of 3.2 million copies, the publisher's largest first printing ever. Breaking Dawn sold 1.3 million copies on its first day of release, propelling the book to the top of bestseller lists throughout the country.
The Host, Meyer's much awaited debut novel for adults, was published by Little, Brown and Company in May 2008, and debuted at #1 on The New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists.
Stephenie Meyer holds an English Literature degree from Brigham Young University. Her spouse and sons reside in Arizona with her.
