Biography

Patrick O'Brian's numerous novels include "Testimonies," "The Golden Ocean," and "The Unknown Shore," in addition to twenty volumes in the highly regarded Aubrey/Maturin series. O'Brian also penned celebrated biographies of Pablo Picasso and Sir Joseph Banks, as well as translating a number of books from French, including Simone de Beauvoir's novels and diaries, as well as Jean Lacouture's biography of Charles de Gaulle. At the age of 85, he died in January 2000.
