Mitch Albom

Biography

Mitch Albom is the author of many fiction and nonfiction books that have sold over forty million copies worldwide in forty-seven languages. He's also authored award-winning TV films, stage plays, screenplays, a nationally syndicated newspaper column, and a musical, as well as seven number-one New York Times bestsellers, including TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, the best-selling memoir of all time, which led the list for four years.

He was inducted into the National Sports Media Association and the Michigan Sports Halls of Fame for his work at the Detroit Free Press, and he received the 2010 Red Smith Award for lifetime accomplishment. His newest book, THE STRANGER IN THE LIFEBOAT, is a return to fiction after the popular memoir FINDING CHIKA and "Human Touch," a weekly serial written and released online in real-time to collect cash for pandemic relief (Harper, November 2021).

He developed and directs SAY Detroit, a nonprofit organization in his hometown that includes a charity dessert store and a culinary product line that helps support initiatives for the city's most neglected residents. He also runs an orphanage in Haiti's Port-au-Prince, which he visits on a regular basis. His wife, Janine, and he live in Michigan.
