Biography:
Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American writer of strange, science fiction, fantasy, and horror literature. Lovecraft is most known for creating a body of literature known as the Cthulhu mythos.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, and spent most of his life there. Early in his career, he produced numerous essays and poetry, but following the publication of the pulp magazine weird tales in 1923, he progressively shifted his attention to horror literature. Despite his relatively modest corpus of literature—three short novels and approximately sixty short stories—he has had a considerable effect on subsequent work in the area, and he is often recognized as the premier twentieth-century American author of supernatural fiction. In 1937, H. P. Lovecraft died in Providence.
